Dan Potts | "It's a really proud achievement"

Over seven years on since his Luton Town debut, Dan Potts made his 200th appearance for the club in midweek – a landmark he is ‘really proud’ to have achieved.

Signed under John Still in 2015, the former West Ham defender has proven to be a brilliant servant and this season alone has captained the side seven times in the Sky Bet Championship, featuring in every match so far.

“I’m really proud. I’ve been here a while now and it has been a long time coming that marker, but it has flown by. It’s mad to think what we’ve achieved over the years and the way the club has developed. It is a real proud achievement to play 200 games and hopefully a few more to come.

“There have been some great lads that have come and gone, and I’ve made some great relationships with people, not just on the pitch. I’ve met some really good people and that is one thing with this club, players come and go but a lot of the staff have been here for a long time as well.

“Alan Sheehan has moved up into the staff as well, I played with Sheez, and I’ve sort of seen it all. The transition from John Still’s time, Ely Way to where we are now with Nathan. I’m sure later on down the line when I look back, I will have real fond memories.”

Upon arrival at Kenilworth Road, he joined the club in League Two but has since enjoyed a remarkable journey through the leagues to the brink of the Premier League.

“It is always easy to drop down the levels in terms of the football pyramid but the people I’ve spoken to, especially when I was younger, they always said how hard it is to get back up the levels and the leagues.

"But for the club to have done what it has done should never be underestimated and whoever has put the Luton shirt on and contributed to that has done the club proud and themselves proud. There is not many stories like it in football and hopefully we can go one better as well.

“Every year has been an improvement. It’s a results business but you have to look at the positions and what we have done over the years in the Championship. That momentum has carried through from League Two and League One and that can’t be underestimated.”

Ahead of a potential 201st Luton match, the number three is looking to build on a positive run of form away from home.

“There’s a rhythm there with a real good spirit amongst the team as well, good character to be able to deal with environments away from home, sometime the stadiums, and the fans. We take a bit of pride in trying to disrupt that a bit, our style of play works really well away from home and we have managed games really well away from home, so long may that continue.

“The schedule is so hectic at the moment as well, just coming off the back of a Tuesday game, being able to flip it and prepare for Saturday. There’s such a short window, really not that much time to think and dwell on things, but the form is there, it’s black and white.

“We always look at things that they struggle with, how we might be able to hurt them and they’ve concede goals early, we’ve scored goals early, so it will be definitely something we want to do and in every game we play, we want to start well, especially away from home as we have recently and hopefully we can do it again Saturday.”
