After almost a month since the Hatters played a competitive match, the Sky Bet Championship returns in spectacular fashion with a full schedule which contains a trip to Middlesbrough for Edwards and his team.

Following his appointment in the middle of November, the 39-year-old revealed just how much he has enjoyed working with the team so far.

“It’s really refreshing to work with this group,” Edwards admitted during his first Luton pre-match press conference. “Every day they put a smile on your face, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously now it becomes more important because it comes down to the games and that is what we do all the training for so we’re looking forward to it.”

“I’ve missed that buzz of matchday,” the gaffer continued. “It was five or six weeks for me before this break, so I’m really looking forward to it. I think there’ll be a few butterflies and nerves. The first game is a big occasion, but I always have that anyway for every game.

“I think that’s good. I think it shows that we care and that we’re desperate to do well. I’m sure the players will be like that as well. We’ve all missed those nerves. The supporters will have the same sorts of feelings as well, so we’re really looking forward to it.

“It will be great to be out there again and to see some of our fans who, again, have travelled a long, long way. And hopefully we can repay them with a really good performance.”

The new boss further commended supporters who are travelling to Middlesbrough, saying: “It’s a huge effort for our fans and I recognise that. A massive thanks goes out to all of them, I’ve heard we’re taking a really good support up there and it’s a long way to go. I know there is a big cost and there’s a pretty big game going on after! It’s a bit of a unique day again so we really appreciate everyone making that big, big effort to come and support us.”
