The Hatters’ Under-21s impressed with a 3-2 win over Rangers Under-21s in a five-goal thriller at Kenilworth Road.

A first half Lorentzen-Jones brace and a second half strike from Charlie Trustram meant Alex Lawless’ side remained unbeaten at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

The young Hatters started the game on the front foot, Lorentzen-Jones and Christian Chigozie both seeing their attempts on goal drift over the crossbar.

But the Scottish side took the lead just past the quarter of an hour mark, Christopher Eadie making up for his earlier miss to put the ball through Henry Blackledge’s legs against the run of play.

The lead wouldn’t last long for Rangers as Lorentzen-Jones fired a fantastic shot from the right-hand side of the box, flying past Alfie Halliwell in sticks and landing in the bottom left-hand corner of the visitors’ net.

The Town’s first-half pressure nearly paid off when Joshua Odell-Bature’s speculative long shot came close to finding the bottom corner.

However the Hatters went into the break ahead when Lorentzen-Jones scored his second on the stroke of half-time, converting a penalty after he was brought down by Zander Hutton in the box.

The Town started as they left off, Trustram latching on to the end of a Jacob Pinnington cross within the opening two minutes of the second half to extend the lead to two goals.

Blackledge was called into action just short of the hour mark; striker Eadie finding the gap in the defence before driving a low shot to the front post which was well saved by the Hatters’ keeper.

Rangers upped the ante with 20 minutes left to play and were rewarded for their pressure when winger Archie Stevens made the most of a missed tackle on the edge of our box to put the visitors back within one.

The visitors then had thought they had levelled late on when Alex Lowry placed the ball past Blackledge, only for a sensational recovery save on the line from the keeper meant the scores stayed 3-2.

A flurry of late attacks on the Town goal went were seen off by the Town defence as Lawless’ side continued their winning start to the season.
