Andros Townsend to join Monday's Hatter Chatter group

On Monday 5th February, our Hatter Chatter group will be joined for a guest Q&A by none other than Hatters wide man, Andros Townsend.

Andros becomes the latest member of first team squad to give up his time to answer questions posed from the group that meets weekly over the medium of Zoom.

Way back in 2020, we explored ways of keeping our local communities connected throughout periods of lockdown and restrictions imposed during the pandemic. Out of this was born ‘Hatter Chatter’. This was a weekly group meeting held over Zoom every Monday morning to chat about the Hatters. It meant supporters from all over the world were able to get together to discuss the games at a time when supporters weren’t permitted to attend the matches.

Fast forward to over three years later and the group is still running! Regulars still enjoy dissecting the finer details of each game, as well as setting a theme for discussion each week to spark discussion of their favourite Luton Town memories from the past. From time to time, we have also been joined by special guests from the football club, including coaching staff, current players and club legends, who have spoken very candidly about their experiences. This gives our members a unique insight into their careers and what goes on behind the scenes. We are looking to arrange another special guest appearance in the coming weeks.

Gale, an original Hatter Chatter member living in Leicestershire, is in no doubt as to the benefits of the group.

She said: “Hatter Chatter enabled me to feel connected with the football club during the period of virtual isolation and continues to do so now. No more so than when players and staff have given their time to join us. Being joined by the special guests gives us some real insight into them as people rather than the image we get on TV.”

The Hatter Chatter group is always keen to welcome new members. Most weekly sessions take place at 10am on a Monday, though the guest Q&As are normally at 2pm. There is no pressure to attend every week, so you can even just attend the Q&A with Andros or any other one off session.

Luton Town FC Community Trust February Half-Term Football Camps

With February half-term now just around the corner, we are fast approaching our first holiday camps of 2024.

Running throughout the week commencing 19th February, the camps take place at a variety of venues both in and around Luton. As well as Luton itself, we’ll be heading to Flitwick and Dunstable. Our camps are open to anyone in school years 1 to 6 regardless of ability and previous experience of the game. Our camps are all run by professional coaches and offer opportunities for young people to learn new skills and work on their technique in a positive, fun and safe environment.

Our day starts with warm-up activities where we specifically focus on individual SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) skills as well as ball mastery. We then focus on individual and team games where the participants learn to use their social skills to work effectively with their team-mates.

In the afternoon all participants take part in football tournaments and matches, with the main focus being having fun and not specifically winning games. To round off each day, we hold a mini-awards ceremony to reward those who have displayed a positive attitude, shown good determination or excelled in their performance. You also never know who might drop in and say hello. In the past our camps have been visited by many of the first team squad, including Carlton Morris, Tom Lockyer and Alfie Doughty amongst others.

Community Trust Business Development Manager, Adam Woulds, said: “We take pride in the fact that our camps are open to all, whether you’ve been playing football for a few years or just taking your first steps in the game, everyone is welcome. We love creating a sense of community where everyone feels supported by our coaches, as well as their peers, and seeing new friendships form.”
