Burke was introduced as a 21st-minute substitute in place of Amari’i Bell, with the Jamaica international going off injured, as the 27-year-old Burke had done himself at half-time of the 2-1 win at Everton last Saturday.

“We’re disappointed. I think the first goal was a little bit sloppy from us,” said the ex-West Ham man. “We didn’t get organised quickly enough, and it was a bit too easy for them. We managed to get one back to get ourselves back in it, but then conceded late on and made it difficult for ourselves.”

The Clarets’ first goal came on the stroke of half-time, when Lyle Foster raced clear and slipped the ball past the onrushing Thomas Kaminski from just outside the box.

“It was hard to take, but we spoke about it at half-time and it was a lack of communication and getting organised quicker, so it was very disappointing to concede a goal like that,” explained the defender.

Substitute Elijah Adebayo struck an equaliser with seven minutes left for his first goal of the season, but within two minutes the visitors’ sub Jacob Bruun Larsen netted a stunning winner after cutting in from the right flank past Burke to fire left footed into the top corner

“After half-time we came out flying and tried to get back in the game,” said Burke. “The lads did really well and we managed to get the equaliser with a great finish by Elijah, but to concede like we did was disappointing.

“To be fair, I should have got closer, but the quality from him to put it into the top corner was there, but overall it was disappointing. We need to learn from it and obviously move forward for the next game.”

That games comes on Saturday against Spurs, and Burke added: “Obviously we are disappointed today, but as a team we do bounce back so we are looking forward to the weekend, and we need to make the Kenny a difficult place to come.”
