PREMIER LEAGUE PRIMARY STARS

As part of Luton Town FC Community Trust’s school’s delivery, we deliver Premier League Primary Stars in schools all across the town.

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League's primary school education programme. It uses the appeal of football and local football clubs to inspire children aged five to 11 to be active and develop essential skills.

The project supports teachers in building their pupils' confidence in key areas, including PSHE, Physical Education, Maths and English. Resources are created in collaboration with subject experts such as the National Literacy Trust and HSBC. Through Premier League Primary Stars, we as a community trust have worked with over 100 schools across Bedfordshire to:

We have been really pleased to have been joined by HSBC to work alongside us in schools recently to help deliver budgeting and financial management workshops as part of our Premier League Primary Stars delivery.

The content of the workshops is adaptable for each age group and allows the young people the opportunity to think about how they’d manage their budget in a situation they can easily relate to.

One example used is a cup final taking place at Wembley stadium, the pupils are encouraged to consider and calculate costs of travel, food, tickets and merchandise. The interactive sessions encourage the young people to think about their decisions and the implications of their choices.

Andrew Byrne, Local Director for Luton, HSBC UK said: “Every young person should have the chance to learn and fulfil their true potential, which is why we are delighted to be working alongside Luton Town FC Community Trust, supporting children in Luton with financial understanding and wellbeing.

“Our Smart Money financial education programme is delivered across the UK to over half a million young people aged from three years old up to 25 years of age, helping them to build their money skills, avoid being caught out by fraudsters and inspire successful futures.”

The partnership with HSBC has allowed us to provide key money skills and knowledge to children in central Luton. The impact of these sessions has been efficacious, providing expert knowledge and a drawing upon a wealth of experience from HSBC workers. These sessions are interactive, story themed and provide key time for Q&A at the end. Most importantly, the children really enjoy them!

DEMENTIA PROJECT

Luton Town FC Community Trust are teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Society to deliver free sessions at Kenilworth Road Stadium to those suffering from dementia as well as their carers.

In addition to providing information and guidance to attendees and signpost them towards other support services, there will also be the opportunity to take part in quizzes, have a tour around the stadium and take a trip down memory lane for all the Hatters fans in attendance. The sessions will also allow individuals going through similar experiences the opportunity to make friends in a relaxed environment. The sessions will be attended by staff members from the Alzheimer’s Society, Luton Town FC Community Trust and other key partners, including the NHS.

Community Trust Business Development Manager, Adam Woulds, commented: “We are really looking forward to welcoming the group to the stadium next week and working alongside the Alzheimer’s Society. I hope these sessions will be enjoyable as well as offering valuable support to attendees and their carers.”

The first session takes place at Kenilworth Road Stadium on Tuesday 28th November 1pm to 3pm. Places are completely free but are limited. Email luton@alzheimers.org.uk to reserve a place or call us at the office on 01582 561622.
